The Office of Deputy President Paul Mashatile says he is recovering well and remains in contact with his office while receiving medical care and rest.

This follows recent reports about Mashatile’s health and his absence from some public engagements.

PAUL MASHATILE RECOVERING WELL, SAYS OFFICE

Mashatile’s acting spokesperson, Keith Khoza, reiterated that the ANC leader became unwell while at home in Johannesburg and, under the supervision of his medical team, sought medical attention.

“He was admitted for a minor surgical procedure and observation, was subsequently discharged, and has continued to receive appropriate medical care and rest.

“The Deputy President is recovering well and remains in contact with his office. His programme and official responsibilities continue to be managed appropriately during his recovery,” Khoza said.

Khoza added that Mashatile had joined Parliament and participated in other important meetings related to his responsibilities through virtual platforms.

Paul Mashatile, who also serves as South Africa’s Deputy President and is a senior leader of the ANC, has been absent from some public engagements during his recovery.

His office has not provided further details about the nature of his medical condition or the procedure, citing his right to medical privacy.

OFFICE URGES PUBLIC TO RELY ON OFFICIAL INFORMATION

Khoza said the Office of the Deputy President respects Paul Mashatile’s right to medical privacy and would therefore not comment on speculative or unverified claims about his health.

“We urge members of the public and media to rely on information issued through official channels rather than speculation or anonymous sources,” Khoza said.

He added that Mashatile appreciates the messages of support and well wishes he has received.

“The Deputy President appreciates the messages of support and well wishes he has received and looks forward to resuming his full programme of official engagements when advised by his medical team.”
