Durban woman Torell Abrahams has been found safe and unharmed after a week-long search throughout the city.

The news comes after Gqeberha teen Allegra Styles was located after a five-day search. The 14-year-old is believed to have disappeared after a fight with her  25-year-old boyfriend.

According to the Facebook group Wentworth Lives Matter, Durban woman Torell Abrahams was found “safe and unharmed” in a post shared on Thursday, 15 October.

This followed an extensive search involving community members, social media influencers and the assistance of MK Party ward councillor Christopher Enicker.

No other details about how Abrahams was found or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance were provided. Her family have requested privacy.

The 30-year-old was last seen when leaving a construction site in Umbilo, where she worked as a safety officer on 8 October. She reportedly called her father to inform him that she would be using an e-hailing service to travel home. This was her family’s last known contact with her.

In the days that followed, unverified allegations on social media claimed that the Durban woman had been kidnapped by an Uber driver. According to Missing Persons South Africa, her cellphone was reportedly traced to the Ndwendwe area, and a missing-persons enquiry was opened at Umbilo police station.

During the time of her disappearance, a R10 000 reward was offered to the public for information leading to her safe return.

‘NOT ON A SPREE

The news that Torell Abrahams has been found has sparked social media commentary, with many expressing concern, particularly about e-hailing safety.

The Durban woman’s aunt, Rochelle Abrahams, responded to the backlash, sharing: “My niece is FOUND SAFE. This was traumatic for our family. We are extremely happy to have our girl home”.

She added: “Torell was not on a spree. Torell was not kidnapped. We give thanks to GOD and everyone of you who came out and showed just how much Tori is loved”.
