Central Jakarta police seize 1.6 kg of meth, arrest two suspects

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police seized 1,599 grams of suspected methamphetamine and arrested two suspects, identified as AA and AR, in Sukabumi Utara, Kebon Jeruk, West Jakarta.
Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief Police Senior Commissioner Reynold E.P. Hutagalung said the seizure demonstrated his officers’ commitment to combating drug trafficking and protecting the public from drug abuse.
“Fighting drugs is not just about solving cases and seizing evidence. It is about saving lives, protecting families and safeguarding the future of younger generations,” Reynold said in a statement issued in Jakarta on Monday.
The case began with an investigation by officers from Unit III, Subunit 3B, of the narcotics unit at about 5 p.m. on Sunday, October 18, on Jalan Salam Raya in Sukabumi Utara, West Jakarta.
Officers grew suspicious of AA, who was riding a motorcycle, and found a package of suspected methamphetamine weighing 51 grams gross in a watch box on the vehicle’s dashboard.
After preliminary questioning, police expanded the investigation and arrested AR at about 12:30 a.m. on Monday, October 19.
A search of AR’s rented home in the same area uncovered three packages of suspected methamphetamine weighing 1,548 grams gross, bringing the total seized to 1,599 grams.
Reynold said the seizure was estimated to protect about 3,300 people from potential drug abuse.
“Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police also urges all members of the public to help prevent and combat drug trafficking. Residents should not hesitate to report suspected activity to police,” he said.
The two suspects and the seized evidence have been taken to Central Jakarta Metropolitan Police headquarters for further investigation, he said, adding that investigators are questioning witnesses and have sent the seized drugs for forensic laboratory testing.
The suspects face charges under Article 114(2) of the 2009 Narcotics Law and/or Article 609(2)(a) of the 2023 Criminal Code, in conjunction with the 2026 law on criminal penalties, Reynold said.
