Fire rips through house in north London with roof completely destroyed

A huge fire has torn through a house in north London, destroying the roof and most of the first floor.

The blaze ripped through the two-storey property on London Road, Stanmore on Monday evening.

Eight fire engines and around 60 firefighters attended the scene, and no injuries were reported.

London Fire Brigade confirmed that they first received reports of the fire at around 7.10pm.

Crews from Stanmore, Mill Hill, Harrow, Hendon, Wembley fire stations, as well as firefighters from Hertfordshire Fire and Rescue, mobilised to the scene, with fire over by around 10pm.

LFB said that the property had smoke alarms, but they did not activate, and that the cause of the fire is under investigation.

An LFB spokesperson said: "This incident is a reminder of just how important it is to have working smoke alarms in your home. Smoke alarms give the earliest possible warning when a fire starts.

"We encourage everyone to have smoke alarms fitted in every room where a fire could start, plus a heat alarm in the kitchen. It's important to test them regularly."

The disused former Over 50s Centre on the White City Estate was ablaze on the evening of June 20, with about 100 firefighters attending.

Following an inquest, the three men have been named as Hristo Ivanov Tomov, Kristin Deyanov Kirilov, and Ivo Ivanov Bohotski.
