KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 5 — The federal government today launched a new framework to align communications and multimedia industry needs with education and skills development as artificial intelligence (AI), digitalisation, emerging technologies and the green economy reshape the sector.

Led by the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), the Communications and Multimedia Future Skills Framework (C&M FSF) will serve as a strategic reference for talent development in the communications and multimedia sector over the next five to 10 years.

Its implementation will also involve the Higher Education and Human Resources ministries to align industry needs with education and skills development.

Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said the framework identifies industry needs while aligning government, industry and education efforts to keep talent development in step with technological and economic changes.

“AI is already changing the nature of many jobs, particularly in areas such as advertising, graphic design and production, by speeding up work processes and taking over some tasks.

“So it is a guideline that we will study and apply across specific sectors under MCMC’s purview, particularly broadcasting, telecommunications and postal and courier services,” he told reporters after the launch of the framework at Angkasapuri here.

Fahmi said the framework was not regulatory in nature, but focused on workforce needs and the potential impact of AI adoption on the sectors and their long-term planning.

To ensure the C&M FSF meets industry needs, the Future Skills Talent Council (FSTC) has been established under the Human Resources Ministry in collaboration with the Communications Ministry through MCMC.

Meanwhile, the Higher Education Ministry will use the C&M FSF to strengthen curricula, micro-credentials and graduate competencies, while training and upskilling programmes will be tailored to changing technology and job market needs.

Fahmi said the framework’s launch reflected the federal government’s efforts to anticipate changes in the job landscape and prepare Malaysians with future-ready skills.

“On the government’s part, we will work to ensure there are more job opportunities available, enabling companies to hire more people, especially young Malaysians,” he said.
