The Akwa Ibom State House of Assembly has commended President Bola Tinubu, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and Governor Umo Eno for their roles in establishing the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Obio-Akpa.

The commendation followed the adoption of a motion moved on Monday by the Deputy Chief Whip of the House and member representing Oruk Anam State Constituency, Sampson Idiong.

Presenting the motion, Idiong described the establishment of the university as a major achievement for Oruk Anam and Akwa Ibom State, saying it would expand access to higher education and promote agricultural development, research and technological innovation.

“The establishment of this university is not only a landmark achievement for Oruk Anam but also a significant investment in the educational, agricultural and technological future of Akwa Ibom State and Nigeria,” he said.

Idiong commended Tinubu for approving the institution, describing the decision as a step towards fulfilling the longstanding aspiration of the people for a federal university that would support agricultural development and widen access to higher education.

He also acknowledged Akpabio’s legislative leadership and role in facilitating the establishment of the institution.

The lawmaker praised Eno for making the Obio-Akpa Campus of Akwa Ibom State University available to facilitate the federal university’s take-off.

Idiong also congratulated Professor Joseph Essien on his appointment as the pioneer Vice-Chancellor of the Federal University of Agriculture and Technology, Obio-Akpa.
