Released June 3 via Crush Music/Reprise/Warner Records, the track reaches the top with a 7% increase in plays in the Oct. 16-22 tracking week, according to Luminate.

Weezer becomes just the seventh act in the chart’s 38-year history to collect at least nine No. 1s. It joins Red Hot Chili Peppers (15), Cage the Elephant, Linkin Park, Twenty One Pilots (14 each), Green Day (13) and Foo Fighters (12).

Here’s a look at all of Weezer’s Alternative Airplay No. 1s:

Title, Peak Date

  • “We Might as Well Be Strangers,” feat. Wednesday, one week to date, Oct. 31, 2026
  • “Records,” one, Feb. 25, 2023
  • “A Little Bit of Love,” two weeks, beginning June 18, 2022
  • “All My Favorite Songs,” four, July 24, 2021
  • “Hero,” one, Aug. 22, 2020
  • “Africa,” three, Aug. 11, 2018
  • “Pork and Beans,” 11, May 17, 2008
  • “Perfect Situation,” four, Jan. 28, 2006
  • “Beverly Hills,” one, July 2, 2005

When “Strangers” debuted in July, it became Weezer’s 36th career entry on Alternative Airplay. That marks the sixth most, after Foo Fighters (45), U2 (44), Pearl Jam (42), Green Day (40) and Red Hot Chili Peppers (37).

The song is also Weezer’s first charting title since the group signed with Reprise/Warner earlier this year. It appears on Weezer’s 20th studio album, Weezer (Gold Album), released in August. The set reached No. 6 on Alternative Albums and No. 35 on the Billboard 200. It became Weezer’s 13th top 10 on Alternative Albums, tying Pearl Jam for the most in the chart’s history.

As for Wednesday, which formed in North Carolina nearly a decade ago, the band has charted three songs on Adult Alternative Airplay: “Elderberry Wine” (No. 11 peak in 2025), “Townies” (No. 27; 2025), and “Strangers,” which reached No. 14 this June.
