Jessica Chastain Joins Emilia Jones & Amy Ryan In Netflix Drama Series ‘The Retrievals’

EXCLUSIVE: With her new Universal horror film Other Mommy drumming up buzz leading up to its October 9 release, Academy Award winner Jessica Chastain has closed a deal to join The Retrievals, Netflix‘s new drama series from Sirens and Maid‘s Molly Smith Metzler.
Inspired by the Peabody Award-winning New York Times podcast by Susan Burton, The Retrievals follows an unlikely community of IVF patients who come together to crusade against Yale University after they are operated on without anesthesia — because a nurse stole their fentanyl. The show is billed as a powerful call to justice and a surprisingly moving story of friendship and perseverance.
Chastain joins the previously announced Emilia Jones and Amy Ryan. She plays Kaitlyn Langford, a former art historian who has spent the last decade stuck in an endless cycle of failed fertility treatments. When she learns she’s a victim of criminal drug diversion at the Yale Fertility Center — along with Jones’ Gabby Clemente — she faces a devastating personal reckoning and becomes a key plaintiff in this historic lawsuit against Yale.
Ryan plays Carla Russo, a veteran nurse at Yale Fertility Center who pleads guilty to diverting vast amounts of fentanyl and diluting it with saline, forcing many patients to endure egg retrieval surgery without anesthesia.
Metzler is showrunner, writer, and executive producer for The Retrievals, which is produced by LuckyChap and her Quiet Coyote. Other exec producers include Dani Gorin, Tom Ackerley, and Margot Robbie for LuckyChap; Colin McKenna, Caitlin Roper for The New York Times, podcast writer Burton, and Lila Neugebauer, an alum of Maid and Sirens who will direct the pilot. The project reunites Metzler and McKenna with Netflix and LuckyChap following their work on the WGA Award-winning Maid and multiple Emmy-nominated Sirens.
Chastain plays dual roles opposite Jay Duplass and up-and-comer Arabella Olivia Clark in Other Mommy, an adaptation of the Josh Malerman novel Incidents Around the House, directed by Rob Savage. Upcoming, she’ll also be seen in the Netflix thriller Heartland from Shana Fest, out November 13, as well as the Apple series Off Weeks (with Ben Stiller) and The Dealer (with Adam Driver). She is repped by CAA, Mosaic, and Hansen, Jacobson, Teller.
