The verdict is in from critics on Mike Flanagan's Carrie on Rotten Tomatoes.
Flanagan not only returns to the world of Stephen King for the Prime Video series, but also marks the fifth to adapt the 1974 novel, albeit bringing a modern spin to the story of the titular teenage girl who, after having been kept in her house her whole life, finally begins a new life at public school, only to be thrown into the emotional turmoil of high school and the sudden emergence of telekinetic powers. The series, led by Summer H. Howell, premiered its first two episodes at the Toronto International Film Festival, where it gained rave reviews.
Now, ahead of its October 7 premiere, more reviews have rolled out for Flanagan's Carrie series, swinging its Rotten Tomatoes score to an 83% approval rating from critics, calculated from 42 reviews at the time of writing. Previously, the King adaptation was sitting at an 88% rating, the second-highest of any iteration of the classic novel behind Brian De Palma's 1976 film. However, while solid, its new score also makes it Flanagan's lowest-rated series on the platform.
