Marvel's Wolverine 2 Already Has The Perfect Sequel Set-Up

Marvel's Wolverine is finally here, and for those of us who've been waiting to see what Logan's story is like in Insomniac's Marvel universe, the answers have arrived. Reviews for Marvel's Wolverine may be a bit mixed, but considering how successful Insomniac's games have been in the past, a sequel feels pretty much guaranteed. And the good news there is that the current game provides the perfect set-up for Marvel's Wolverine 2 already.

Over the course of Marvel's Wolverine, Logan has flashbacks, which sometimes seem like they're from another life. A mysterious voice antagonizes him on more than one occasion. And while the primary plot revolves around Logan's relationship with Jean and Nathaniel Essex's Team X, by the end of the main storyline, a sequel set-up is apparent. This is only compounded by a post-credits scene involving Sabretooth. Last warning: major spoilers ahead.

Wolverine Sequel Will Feature An Iconic X-Men Villain

Toward the end of the game, it's revealed that Apocalypse has been using Logan as one of his Four Horsemen. Namely, Death, and that Apocalypse is the mysterious voice that's been tantalizing Logan at various times during the game. Turns out, Apocalypse and Jean Grey/Phoenix have had a pretty long history, culminating in Jean having to erase Logan's memories in order to free him from Apocalypse's grasp.

It's all pretty dramatic, but don't expect to see Apocalypse at any point. Beyond a voice and a shadow, that's all we get in the main storyline. Mr. Sinister is still the main villain in Marvel's Wolverine, but this is an obvious set-up for a sequel, and there's plenty to explore between Logan, Jean, and Apocalypse in the future.

Apocalypse Will Play A Major Role In Marvel's Wolverine 2

As if that weren't enough, the post-credits scene shows Sabretooth (who's survived the fight in Madripoor against Logan), being heralded as another of Apocalypse's Four Horsemen, War. Assuming all of this build-up pays off, it sure sounds like Marvel's Wolverine 2 will be dealing with Apocalypse and his Four Horsemen, as well as exploring more of Phoenix's backstory.

Granted, this may be setting up some kind of DLC the way Marvel's Spider-Man did on PS4, but it certainly feels bigger than that. Apocalypse is a major X-Men villain, so it's also possible this is all setting the stage for Insomniac's X-Men game. Either way, we should expect to see Apocalypse playing a pivotal role in whatever happens next for Logan, even if it's for X-Men and not an actual Marvel's Wolverine sequel.
