Geordie Greep responds after alleged victim and ex-bandmate speak out over “sexual assault” claims

Geordie Greep has responded after the alleged victim and his ex-bandmate spoke out over claims of sexual assault.

The comments come in relation to the allegations made against the former Black Midi singer, which he addressed on stage last week.

Ahead of his show at The Pearl in Vancouver, a person was seen handing out flyers accusing the singer of sexual misconduct. “Geordie Greep A Rapist” the flyers read, also stating: “You know what you did this morning Oct 8th”.

Greep addressed the accusations on stage that night, saying that while he was a part of a “misunderstanding” at a house party the night prior, the accusations of him being a “rapist” were untrue. He also said that fans could leave and get a refund for the Vancouver gig if they so wished, and later quietly cancelled shows in Boulder, Boise, Denver, and Salt Lake City.

His keyboardist Cameron Campbell did not appear on stage with Greep when he addressed the crowd on October 8, and has since shared a message with a fan confirming that he had quit the band.

Now, both Campbell and the woman affected by the alleged assault have spoken to Paste about the details of the situation, following widespread speculation online.

The woman, using the pseudonym “Laura” claims that she and two other women met Greep at a house party the night before the gig, and that she made it clear to Greep that she was in a relationship. She then recalled walking with Greep to her friend’s apartment, during which the singer made comments about homeless people that made her uncomfortable and showed “weird behaviour, but nothing alarming or dangerous”.

Later that night, at the apartment, Laura claimed she fell asleep on her friend’s sofa around 5am and woke up to Greep kissing her. “I don’t know for how long because I was passed out, but I think I woke up fairly quickly. His lips were on my lips, trying to make out with me, and then I pushed him off.”

Campbell said he was not in the room when the alleged incident took place, but claimed to hear Laura yelling at Greep to “get off” her and “immediately” ran into the room to check on her. “He tried to start downplaying it right there, saying that he only tried to give her a kiss on the cheek—which, again, if she’s asleep, that doesn’t really make it okay either way,” Campbell told the outlet. “After that, I knew that I was gonna quit.”

Laura went on to tell the outlet that the flyers were handed out by someone else without her consent, and that she is accusing Greep of “assault”, not “rape”.

“Those flyers were shared without my consent or knowledge. I am very disappointed in the person who decided my story was theirs to twist and tell the world,” her statement read. “If I’d had a couple more drinks and didn’t wake up when I did, I don’t know what would have happened. But the fact of the matter is I was not raped. I don’t know his full intentions, and either way, his behaviour was disgusting. But he did not rape me, and I would never claim otherwise.”

She also added that she was sharing her story not “in order to try and take Geordie down,” but in hopes that “this does help prevent future victims.”

In a separate statement to the outlet, Campbell said that he wanted to speak out to both clear up “incorrect accusations” and stop “attempts to minimise what happened”.

“I want to be careful not to claim I witnessed something I didn’t or speak on behalf of the victim. Her experience is hers to share,” he added. “But I also don’t want my silence about my departure to be mistaken as agreeing with the mischaracterization of this incident.”

In response to the Paste article, Greep has shared another statement online, sharing his recollection of the night. He said that he was unaware that the woman he kissed was asleep at the time, and that he “apologised and stepped away” when she told him to stop.

“I want to unreservedly apologise to her for what I did and for the distress and hurt I caused that night,” he wrote, “It was a huge mistake. I feel awful about it and I am very sorry. I got it all wrong that night and I accept that.”

“I understand the impact of my actions and take full accountability. I am not trying to minimise what happened in any way and, again, all I can say is how sorry I am.”

Greep launched his solo career following Black Midi’s “indefinite” split in 2024, releasing his debut album ‘The New Sound’ later that year.
