(Asiad) S. Korean fencers, swimmers set to headline Asian Games events

NAGOYA, Japan, Sept. 22 (Yonhap) -- South Korean fencers, spearheaded by Song Se-ra, seek their second consecutive title in women's team epee at this year' Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Tuesday.

South Korea won the event at the previous Hangzhou Asian Games for the first time in about 20 years.

Song is at the forefront of the team, having been a member of the last gold medal-winning squad and winning silver in the individual event three years ago.

In the pool, South Korean swimmers, including Hwang Sun-woo and Kim Young-beom, will pursue their second relay medal in men's 4x100-meter medley relay.

Hwang and Kim teamed up to add bronze in the men's 4x200m freestyle relay the previous day.

Kim Woo-min, also a member of the 4x200m freestyle relay team, will compete in the men's 1,500m freestyle.

South Korean shooters will hunt for their first gold medal in the sport after winning two bronze medals so far.

Ban Hyo-jin and Park Ha-jun will team up for the 10m air rifle mixed team event. Ban finished third in the women's individual 10m air rifle, and Park also won the bronze medal in the men's team event on Sunday.

In mixed martial arts (MMA), which is making its Asian Games debut in Japan, Choi Eun-sok will compete in the men's modern MMA -71-kilogram event, seeking South Korea's second medal in the new sport after Lee Bo-mi won bronze in the women's modern MMA -54-kilogram event the previous day.

The women's volleyball team will play against Thailand in the bronze medal match.
