Duterte camp: Marcos ‘out of touch with reality, not fit for office’

MANILA, Philippines — Vice President Sara Duterte’s camp on Monday accused President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. of “trivializing” her “serious accusations” against him, claiming this proved that he is “out of touch with reality and not fit for office.”

Duterte’s spokesperson, Atty. Paolo Panelo Jr., was referring to Marcos’ earlier comments on Duterte’s derogatory remarks, in which she called him corrupt and a drug addict, among others.

In an interview in New Delhi, India, Marcos said he lacked an appropriate response to Duterte’s anger, adding that “you cannot force anyone to love you.”

“The fact that President Marcos trivialized Vice President Sara Duterte’s serious accusations of historic corruption and grave abuses in government as the product of her ‘personal’ anger toward him, and answered, ‘What can I do? You cannot force anyone to love you,’ while millions of Filipinos suffer every day from the incompetence and plunder of this administration and its allies, only prove that he is out of touch with reality and not fit for office,” Panelo said.

“The country does not need his excuses. It needs his resignation,” he added.

It was last week when Duterte lambasted Marcos following the postponement of her arraignment before the Quezon City Regional Trial Court.

She is facing three counts of grave threats after she revealed during an online press conference in November 2024 that she had asked someone to kill Marcos and his wife and presidential cousin and then-House Speaker Martin Romualdez in the event of her demise. /mcm
