TV tonight: Ellie White and Natasia Demetriou’s side-splitting comedy

Translate

10pm, BBC Two
There is not one weak sketch in the opener of Ellie White and Natasia Demetriou’s comedy – they will have you weeping tears of laughter. Now in its second series, expect returning characters and new ones. There are lifestyle influencers shopping at Asda; hipsters spending all day in an overpriced trinkets boutique; and Mary Poppins at a gynaecological appointment. It also guest stars Steve Coogan, Sian Clifford and Jamie Demetriou. Hollie Richardson

The Repair Shop: Beyond the Barn

8pm, BBC One
This minor variation on the Repair Shop formula continues: the barn is still open but the gang embark on a few road trips. Most notable this time is the Ukrainian tsymbaly (a hammered dulcimer) belonging to a woman from Cornwall. Once it’s been lovingly restored, it’s moving to see it being played. Phil Harrison

Portrait Artist of the Year 2026

8pm, Sky Arts
The portrait competition where tears are expected by at least one of the celebrity sitters each week returns. This time, they are Olympian skeleton skater Matt Weston, poet Nikita Gill, and film director and actor Dexter Fletcher. HR

Denis Lawson delivers a mighty science lesson with this programme, which tests a theory about asteroids sparking life on Earth – rather than just extinguishing it. He rewinds 4bn years to tell the story of the newly formed planet, as scientists share their mindblowing research. HR

Grand Designs

9pm, Channel 4
In 2017, energy conservationist Andrew bet it all on Britain’s first self-heating home, which would harness and store the summer’s warmth in vast insulated earth banks, to be deployed in winter. He’d soon come up against structural problems, spiralling costs and a teed-off wife. Years later, Kevin McCloud checks in to discover whether the project paid off. Ali Catterall

The Experiment

10pm, Channel 4
The makers of Channel 4’s next provocative social experiment have remained very hush hush about the details. Mat Fraser and Sophie Morgan are the hosts at a residential facility where visitors are invited to meet guests and “nothing is quite as it seems”. HR

Film choice

Moana (Thomas Kail, 2026) , Disney+

This must be the role Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson was born to play: muscular demigod Maui in the live-action remake of Moana. The animated musical was an instant hit when it was first released in 2016, with moving, catchy songs written by the master Lin-Manuel Miranda, and a screenplay drawing from Polynesian mythology. This version survives the transition to photorealism, thanks to Johnson’s winning brio and a star-making turn from Catherine Laga’aia as the ocean-faring lead. Ellen E Jones
