Red rainfall warning up over NCR, other areas as 'Neneng' enhances habagat

MANILA, Philippines — Metro Manila and several areas in Luzon were placed under a red rainfall warning on Wednesday morning as Tropical Depression Neneng continued to enhance the southwest monsoon or habagat, bringing heavy rains and a threat of serious flooding.
In its heavy rainfall warning issued at 8 a.m., PAGASA said serious flooding is expected in flood-prone areas under the red warning level.
The following areas are under the red warning level:
- Bataan
- Metro Manila
- Zambales: Cabangan, San Felipe, San Antonio, San Narciso, Botolan, San Marcelino, Olongapo, Subic and Castillejos
- Bulacan: Marilao, Bocaue, Bulakan, Meycauayan, Obando, Balagtas, Hagonoy, Paombong, Malolos, Calumpit, Guiguinto, Pulilan and Plaridel
- Pampanga: Masantol, Sasmuan, Macabebe, Lubao and Floridablanca
- Batangas: Nasugbu, Lian, Calatagan, Balayan and Tuy
- Cavite: Ternate, Maragondon, Naic, Tanza, Rosario, Cavite City, Noveleta, Bacoor, Kawit, Magallanes, General Emilio Aguinaldo, General Trias, Imus and Trece Martires
PAGASA said flooding is still threatening in areas under the orange warning level. These are:
- Zambales: Candelaria, Masinloc, Santa Cruz, Palauig and Iba
- Bulacan: Angat, Baliuag, Bustos, San Jose del Monte, Norzagaray, Pandi, San Ildefonso, San Rafael and Santa Maria
- Pampanga: Apalit, Bacolor, San Fernando, Mexico, Minalin, San Luis, San Simon, Santa Ana, Santo Tomas, Angeles, Guagua, Porac, Santa Rita and Mabalacat
- Rizal: Rodriguez, San Mateo, Antipolo, Taytay, Angono, Cainta, Teresa, Morong, Baras, Cardona and Binangonan
- Tarlac: San Jose, Capas, Bamban and Mayantoc
- Cavite: Alfonso, Amadeo, Indang, Mendez, Silang, Tagaytay, Carmona, Dasmarinas and General Mariano Alvarez
- Laguna: San Pedro, Binan, Santa Rosa, Cabuyao and Calamba
- Batangas: Calaca, Laurel, Lemery, Agoncillo, Tingloy, Mabini, Bauan, San Luis, Taal, San Nicolas, Santa Teresita, Talisay and Tanauan
A yellow warning level, meanwhile, was raised over parts of Nueva Ecija, Rizal, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Quezon, Batangas and Laguna, with flooding possible in flood-prone areas.
The areas under the yellow warning are:
- Nueva Ecija
- Rizal: Tanay, Pililla and Jala-Jala
- Tarlac: Concepcion, Anao, Tarlac City, Gerona, La Paz, Paniqui, Pura, Ramos, San Manuel, Victoria, Camiling, Moncada, San Clemente, Santa Ignacia and other listed areas
- Pampanga: Arayat, Candaba and Magalang
- Bulacan: Doña Remedios Trinidad and San Miguel
- Quezon: General Nakar, Panukulan, Burdeos, Polillo, Patnanungan, Jomalig, San Antonio and Tiaong
- Batangas: Malvar, Santo Tomas, Alitagtag, Balete, Batangas City, Cuenca, Ibaan, Lipa, Mataasnakahoy, San Jose, San Pascual, Lobo, Padre Garcia, Rosario, San Juan and Taysan
- Laguna: Los Baños, Bay, Alaminos, Calauan, Victoria and San Pablo
Meanwhile, light to moderate rains were affecting parts of Quezon and Laguna and may persist within three hours, PAGASA said.
PAGASA earlier forecast 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall over Metro Manila, Tarlac, Pampanga, Bulacan, Nueva Ecija, Cavite, Batangas, Laguna, Rizal and other areas due to the southwest monsoon on Wednesday. Higher rainfall totals of 100 to 200 millimeters were forecast over Zambales and Bataan.
Neneng, meanwhile, was last located 675 kilometers east of Itbayat, Batanes, packing maximum sustained winds of 55 kph and gustiness of up to 70 kph.
PAGASA expects the tropical depression to move toward Taiwan, where it may make landfall between Thursday afternoon and Friday morning.
