Lenny Kravitz to be immortalised as Barbie doll for Ken’s 65th anniversary

Singer Lenny Kravitz is to be made into a Barbie Signature Doll to celebrate the 65th anniversary of the female doll’s male counterpart Ken.

The 62-year-old Fly Away singer, who is the father of actress Zoe Kravitz, is being made into a doll as a “Kenbassador”, to celebrate his recent Blue Electric Light Tour and career of more than 40 years.

The US star said: “Barbie is an institution and as a kid growing up, I could not have imagined this.

“To be chosen by Mattel as a Kenbassador, only the second one in history, is an honour and absolutely surreal.”

The first “Kenbassador” was basketball star LeBron James.

The Barbie Signature Kenbassadors Lenny Kravitz Collectible Doll is inspired by the star’s on-stage look, with a bronze-coloured mesh cowl-neck tank top and boot-leg denim jeans, paired with a studded belt, boots, sunglasses and his trademark dreadlocks.

Nathan Baynard, vice president and head of Barbie at Mattel, said: “As we continue to celebrate Ken’s 65th anniversary this year, we are incredibly excited to recognise Lenny Kravitz as the second honoree in our Barbie Signature Kenbassadors Collection.

“From his genre-defying music to his fearless approach to personal style, Lenny uses his platform to champion individuality while empowering others to do the same.

The Lenny Kravitz doll will be priced at £52 (Mattel Inc)

“We’re proud to honour his lasting influence on style and culture through this doll, giving fans a new way to celebrate an artist whose authenticity continues to inspire generations.”

Kravitz has scored two UK top 10 singles, including a number one in Fly Away, with his other well-known songs including Are You Gonna Go My Way and It Ain’t Over Til It’s Over.

He has also had three UK top 10 albums, including a number one with 1993’s Are You Gonna Go My Way.

The doll will be available for sale online only at a number of retailers and Mattel Creations, priced at 70 dollars (£52) from September 17.
