Jurgen Klopp’s wait for a first win as an international manager went on as his Germany team suffered a surprise defeat to Greece in the UEFA Nations League 2026-27.
Dimitrios Kourbelis scored the deciding goal as Greece secured its first win over the four-time world champion.
Klopp’s side offered little in attack and lacked the energy they had displayed on the former Liverpool coach’s debut in a 1-1 away draw with the Netherlands on Thursday.
With key players including Kai Havertz and Jamal Musiala missing through injury, Klopp offered opportunities to some newer faces including Bambase Conte, a shock call-up after playing just four top-flight matches for Hoffenheim.

However, it was the visitor that was able to find the telling moment midway through the second half when Kourbelis’s deflected off Joshua Kimmich and rolled into the bottom left corner.
The two sides will meet again in this international break, playing in Athens on October 5.
