CALAPAN CITY, Oriental Mindoro — A total of 157,357 children aged 6 to 59 months in Mimaropa have been vaccinated against measles and rubella as the region continues its supplemental immunization campaign, according to the Department of Health (DOH) in Mimaropa.

The figure represents 50.40 percent of the region’s target of 312,191 eligible children, based on the Ligtas Tigdas Measles-Rubella Supplemental Immunization Activity (MR-SIA) Quick Count as of 7 a.m. on Aug. 26.

The DOH also reported that 124,737 children had been administered Vitamin A, equivalent to 39.96 percent of the same target population.

Occidental Mindoro posted the highest measles-rubella vaccination coverage among Mimaropa provinces, with 34,146 of its 54,894 target children vaccinated, or 62.20 percent.

Romblon followed with 53.31 percent, or 13,797 of 25,881 children vaccinated, while Palawan recorded 49.57 percent, with 48,143 of 97,125 children vaccinated.

Oriental Mindoro had vaccinated 41,564 of its 86,196 target children, or 48.22 percent, while Marinduque recorded 44.26 percent, with 9,666 of 21,841 children vaccinated.

Puerto Princesa City had vaccinated 10,041 of 26,254 target children, equivalent to 38.25 percent.

The MR-SIA is being carried out across Mimaropa to reach children aged 6 to 59 months and protect them against measles and rubella, regardless of their previous vaccination records.

The DOH Mimaropa said health workers, local government units and partner organizations are continuing to bring vaccination services closer to communities through fixed and temporary vaccination posts.

Parents and guardians are urged to bring their children to the nearest fixed or temporary vaccination post until Sept. 4, according to the latest campaign advisory.

The DOH emphasized that children may still be brought for vaccination even if they have no vaccination record. /mcm
