Former Albania and Mohun Bagan Super Giant forward Armando Sadiku announced his retirement from football on Wednesday.

The 35-year-old played 38 matches for Albania, scoring 12 goals over a career spanning more than a decade. ‘Thank you, football! I will miss you,’ Sadiku wrote on Instagram.

He spent the 2023-24 season in India, playing for Bagan, winning the Durand Cup and the Indian Super League Shield. He then moved to FC Goa, winning the Bandodkar Trophy in 2024.

“Thank you for the memories, Sadiku. Wishing you the best for what lies ahead,” Bagan wrote on social media.

Sadiku was hailed as a vital cog in Albania’s attack as well.

Most fans in Albania remember him for his historic goal against Romania at the 2016 European Championship in France, one that ensured the only win for his country in that major competition in its first participation.

Across two Indian clubs, he scored 21 goals and assisted three more before moving to Swiss side AC Bellinzona last season. It is here that he has decided to transition from an on-field role to one off it, becoming the club’s sporting director.
