Egypt’s President Orders National Emergency Stockpile Preparations

Translate

President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi has ordered the preparation of a strategic national stockpile of essential supplies to ensure Egypt is ready to respond to potential emergencies and crises, according to a statement on Saturday, 7 November.

During a meeting with senior military officials and representatives of Egypt’s National Authority for Crisis and Emergency Management, Sisi directed the authority to examine the creation of a national reserve of all necessary goods and supplies. The initiative is intended to ensure the country can meet essential needs in the event of an emergency.

The meeting also focused on strengthening Egypt’s emergency management system. Sisi instructed all state institutions to speed up the process of submitting their data to the National Authority for Crisis and Emergency Management, stressing that the information must be accurate and regularly maintained to support effective decision-making.

Egypt’s move comes as other governments are also urging greater preparation for potential emergencies.

The UK government, for example, has issued guidance encouraging households to keep essential supplies at home so they can cope with emergencies and possible disruptions to everyday services.

The conflict in Yemen has been ongoing for more than a decade, yet the situation escalated further in October 2026, when Houthi attacks on Saudi airports and oil facilities prompted Egypt to take a more direct role in the crisis. On October 26, the Egyptian Parliament authorised President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi to provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia if requested.
