When Scotty McCreery won Fox’s American Idol on May 25, 2011 — performing “Live Like You Were Dying” with Tim McGraw on the episode — the season’s end marked the start of McCreery’s country music career.

He didn’t wait to get product into the marketplace. American Idol Season 10: Scotty McCreery, featuring studio versions of 14 songs he performed on Idol, was released immediately, debuting at No. 3 on Billboard’s Top Country Albums dated June 11. A five-song Highlights EP followed, hitting No. 2 on the July 16 list. Finally, his first album of original songs, Clear as Day, launched at No. 1 on the Oct. 22 chart, days after he turned 18 on Oct. 9.

Produced by Mark Bright (Carrie Underwood, Rascal Flatts), Clear spent six nonconsecutive weeks at the summit and yielded McCreery’s first two top 20 entries on Hot Country Songs, “I Love You This Big” (No. 15) and “The Trouble with Girls” (No. 17).

Over time, McCreery developed greater control of his trademark lower range and began cowriting more of his material, grabbing two more chart-topping albums and, after moving to Triple Tigers, amassing six No. 1s on Country Airplay, most recently with the Hootie & the Blowfish collaboration “Bottle Rockets,” which reigned on Oct. 24, 2025.

Recognizing the 15th anniversary of his recording career, Triple Tigers released McCreery’s compilation 15 on July 17. It includes each of his No. 1 singles and remakes of the former country hits “Hello Darlin’,” “Why Me” and “Your Man,” the latter teaming him with Josh Turner.

Meanwhile, the 2011 Idol runner-up, Lauren Alaina, rules the latest (Oct. 24, 2026-dated) Country Airplay chart with her Chase Matthews team-up, “All My Exes.”
