Indonesia's new gas projects to add 290 MMSCFD in supply

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Coordinating Minister for Downstreaming and Energy Transition Bahlil Lahadalia has inaugurated the Jangkrik North East #6 (JNE#6) gas intake and the Maha-South Hub field production facilities, which are expected to add 290 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to Indonesia’s gas supply.

“I am inaugurating the operations of the Maha-South Hub field, which is expected to reach approximately 290 MMSCFD,” Lahadalia said during the inauguration ceremony, which was monitored virtually from Jakarta on Thursday.

The JNE#6 well is currently supplying 60 MMSCFD of gas to the Jangkrik Floating Production Unit (FPU).

By the end of October 2026, a further 230 MMSCFD is expected to come from two gas wells in the Maha field.

Together, the JNE#6 well and the Maha-South Hub development are expected to increase gas supply by approximately 290 MMSCFD.

The Jangkrik FPU currently processes around 550 MMSCFD of gas. Following the inauguration, Lahadalia said he expected production at the facility to reach 700–750 MMSCFD.

Lahadalia also highlighted other projects being developed by Eni, including the Geliga-1 well in the Ganal Block offshore East Kalimantan, which could further increase Indonesia’s gas production in the coming years.

“By 2028–2029, our total gas production is expected to reach approximately 3,000 MMSCFD, while condensate production is projected to reach around 130,000 barrels per day,” Lahadalia said.

He also expressed appreciation to Eni and Searah for their work on the JNE#6 gas project and the Maha-South Hub production facilities. The projects represent an investment of approximately US$840 million.

“That is a significant investment. However, when compared with the importance of our energy security and our path toward energy self-sufficiency, it is even more significant,” Lahadalia said.

The Maha field development has estimated gas reserves of 438 billion standard cubic feet (BSCF).

The project comprises two production wells, Maha-3 and Maha-4, along with a subsea production system (SPS).
