Storm off PAR to trigger rains in Visayas, Mindanao on Saturday – Pagasa

MANILA, Philippines — The trough or extension of Severe Tropical Storm Choi-Wan off Northern Luzon and outside the Philippine area of responsibility (PAR) is forecast to continue to bring rains to the Visayas and Mindanao on Saturday, Oct. 3, according to the state weather bureau.

The Philippine Atmospheric, Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (Pagasa) reported in its 5 p.m. weather advisory on Friday that the extension of Choi-Wan will bring cloudy skies with scattered rains to Mindanao, Western Visayas, Negros Island Region, and Central Visayas.

As of 3 p.m., the weather disturbance was located outside the PAR, some 2,440 kilometers (km) east of Northern Luzon, packing a maximum sustained wind speed of 110 km per hour (kph) near the center and gustiness of up to 135 kph , while slowly moving northwest.

“Mababa naman po ang tsansa na ito (Choi-Wan)n ay pumasok ng ating area of responsibility at generally northwestward ang kanyang magiging movement sa mga susunod na oras at araw,” Pagasa weather specialist Loriedin De la Cruz – Galicia said.

Meanwhile, generally fair weather with a chance of localized thunderstorms may prevail over Metro Manila and the rest of the country on Saturday.

“Generally good weather, especially sa umaga pero pagdating ng tanghali, hapon, at gabi, hindi natin inaalis ang mga tsansa ng thunderstorms,” she said.
