IDF reservists to face disciplinary proceedings over alleged selfie after West Bank shooting
IDF reservists who, according to Palestinian claims, allegedly posed for a selfie alongside the body of a Palestinian killed in a shooting incident at the Bani Naim Junction in the Judea Regional Brigade's sector will face disciplinary proceedings following an inquiry into the incident, Walla learned on Tuesday.
The footage was circulated on social media following the incident, which occurred in the area on Monday. The IDF is continuing to investigate whether the incident was a ramming attack or a traffic accident. During the incident, a vehicle driven by a Palestinian struck a military vehicle.
The IDF troops at the scene said they felt threatened and opened fire at the vehicle. One Palestinian was killed in the shooting, while another Palestinian was seriously wounded.
Following the incident, footage circulated online showing soldiers posing for a selfie, allegedly with the body of the Palestinian who was killed visible in the background.
An inquiry was launched following the circulation of the footage, after which it was decided that the reservists would face disciplinary proceedings. Military officials said the conduct, on its face, was inconsistent with the values of the IDF.
IDF continues investigation into intent behind incident
At the same time, the investigation into the circumstances of the incident itself remains ongoing, and the IDF has not yet determined whether the Palestinian vehicle intentionally struck the military vehicle or whether the collision was a traffic accident.
