SPEAK UP: Taiwan’s 2025 TOEIC score slightly rises to 583 points (1/2) 台灣2025多益583分微升（上）

A: According to statistics of the 990-point TOEIC Listening and Reading Test, Taiwan’s score rose by 2 points to a new high of 583 points in 2025.

B: It’s still far behind Asia’s “700-point Club” members: India, the Philippines and Malaysia, or the nearly 700-point South Korea.

A: Why was the average for Taiwanese university students so much lower than high school seniors’ average of 655 points once again?

B: Many universities attach little importance to language learning courses, and have even changed the basic “Freshman English” from compulsory to elective. Most students simply stop learning English after starting college.

A: The government is impractically promoting “EMI” — English-Medium Instruction — for all subjects, while allowing universities to cut English learning courses recklessly. Isn’t this like “putting the cart before the horse?”

A: 滿分990分的多益「聽力／閱讀測驗」統計新出爐，台灣2025年平均略增2分達到583分再創新高！

B: 不過和亞洲「700分俱樂部」成員︰印度、菲律賓、馬來西亞，或接近700分的南韓相比台灣還落後一大截。

A: 為什麼台灣大學生分數遠低於高三生平均655分啊？

B: 因為許多大學現在都不重視語文課程，連基本的「大ㄧ英文」都從必修變選修，所以學生上大學後就不學英文啦。

A: 政府一方面推動不切實際的各科目「全英語授課」（EMI），另一方面卻又放任學校大砍英文課，這不就是「本末倒置」嗎？
