Pierce Brosnan Says Next James Bond Could Be “Someone That None Of Us Know About”; Tom Ellis Reveals Brosnan Said He’d “Make A Good Bond”

Many suggestions have circulated about who could be the next 007 agent in the James Bond film franchise, and Pierce Brosnan has a new take on where the studio could go.

Auditions for the role in the Denis Villeneuve film are already underway and have taken place over the summer, and Brosnan recently said there are “lots of great actors” up for the role, but he thinks they might cast someone unknown.

“I have no desire to see myself in Bond. I’m just a member of the audience now awaiting the next Bond and wishing him well,” Brosnan said in an interview with The Times. “There are lots of good hats in the ring. Lots of great actors. I see it. I follow it. They could probably just go left-field and pick someone that none of us know about.”

When it came to actually saying a name, Brosnan said, “I wouldn’t pick anyone. My wife told me not to say anything and I’ve said too much. Because once I say something, it goes [everywhere] and I get hanged.”

Although Brosnan didn’t drop a name, his Thursday Murder Club co-star Tom Ellis said that the former M16 agent told him he would “make a good Bond.”

“He did tell me he thought I’d make a good Bond, and I was like, ‘Pierce, I think I’m probably too old now. But I’ll take it from you, mate. I’ll take it from you,'” Ellis told Metro UK.

Brosnan began his tenure as the 007 agent in 1995 with GoldenEye, directed by Martin Campbell. The actor would reprise his role in 1997’s Tomorrow Never Dies, 1999’s The World Is Not Enough, and 2002’s Die Another Day. Daniel Craig succeeded Brosnan for 2006’s Casino Royale and ended his tenure with 2021’s No Time to Die.

In March of this year, Deadline reported that Nina Gold had closed a deal to become the casting director for the next James Bond film. Gold’s credits include HBO’s Game of Thrones, the Netflix series The Crown, and five films in the Star Wars franchise.
