Another site containing pet remains dumped in plastic bags was discovered on Saturday in a densely vegetated area in Barangay Gaya-Gaya, San Jose del Monte, Bulacan.
In a report on “24 Oras Weekend,” GMA News reporter Jamie Santos said animal welfare group Luna and Furry Friends, which has been searching for possible dumping sites, had lost count of the exact number of animal remains it had recovered since the initial discovery a week ago.
At the newly discovered site, the remains of dogs and cats were found in various stages of decomposition. Some appeared to have been recently dumped, while others were barely recognizable or had already liquefied.
The group recovered 12 more animal remains at the site on Saturday. On Friday, it reported finding around 16 more bodies near an access road.
Chris Taylor, founder of Luna and Furry Friends, said their search efforts were being aided by informants who preferred not to coordinate with the local government unit (LGU).
“We’ve already checked the other fields, we’ve already gone down to the end, and we checked the bypass road itself, there was nothing that we found anywhere. It was all exactly what we were told. We have a couple of informants that are working with us. They don’t want to deal with the LGU,” Taylor said.
Personnel from Barangay Gaya-Gaya and the San Jose del Monte police inspected the area after receiving a report about the newly discovered site. The barangay captain declined to comment, citing the ongoing investigation.
The report said the group was trying to speed up its search while the remains could still be identified by their owners.
All recovered remains were photographed and recorded on video for documentation, according to the report.
Luna and Furry Friends said it would turn over all evidence gathered during its operations to the National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), which has also launched its own investigation.
On Friday, the NBI filed estafa and waste management-related complaints against four individuals allegedly linked to the improper disposal of pet remains in Bulacan. It also sought an immigration lookout bulletin order against three individuals under investigation.
NBI Director Atty. Melvin Matibag previously identified Ahjay Paws Aftercare Pet Crematorium in Bacoor as the facility allegedly responsible for sending the remains to another pet crematorium in San Jose del Monte.
At least 250 pet owners have since filed complaints against the pet crematorium after identifying their pets among the remains found at the first discovered site. —Lyjah Tiffany Bonzo/VBL, GMA News
