Digger may be the lowest opening for a Tom Cruise joint since 2007’s Lions for Lambs, but the mega-star has only mad respect for those who joined him on the Alejandro G. Iñárritu-directed film.

In an Instagram post, Cruise said that “I am so honored to have had the opportunity to create this film alongside such talented artists. Thank you to the entire cast and crew for your dedication, hard work, and joy. The experience was truly unforgettable and I’m so proud of what we created.”

Earlier Saturday, Deadline’s Anthony D’Alessandro reported that Cruise’s satirical comedy had an $8 million opening. Iñárritu has said that he made the movie for the Gen Z generation; 60 percent of those who bought were between 18-34. More than 70 percent of the audience has been male. The dark comedy that stars Cruise as wealthy oil tycoon Digger Rockwell earned a C+ from CinemaScore.

The movie is playing on the coasts with AMC Lincoln Square counting the best sum for the film.

In his review, Deadline’s Pete Hammond said Digger “is unlike any film coming from a major Hollywood studio in years” and that Iñárritu “takes things much further and thus could be one of the more divisive movies for the masses in a very long time.:
