Translate

A teacher was charged in the Kota Bharu magistrates’ court today with negligently causing the death of a student at SMK Tanjong Mas in Kota Bharu, Kelantan, in April.

Berita Harian reported that Sakinah Ismail, 57, pleaded not guilty after the charge was read before magistrate Wan I’zzat Wan Abdullah.

She is charged with negligently causing the death of a Form 1 student at the surau of SMK Tanjong Mas at 1.40pm on April 12.

The charge was brought under Section 304A of the Penal Code, which provides for up to two years’ imprisonment, a fine or both.

Sakinah is also accused of negligently endangering another Form 1 student’s life by ramming her with a Honda HR-V at the same location and time.

The second charge was brought under Section 336 of the Penal Code, which provides for up to three months’ imprisonment, a fine of up to RM500 or both.

The prosecution was led by deputy public prosecutor Nadzir Abdullah, while Sakinah was represented by Hasif Hasan and Wan Fadhil Fayyadh Wan Zuhairi.

Nadzir proposed bail of RM3,000 for both charges with one surety. However, Hasif requested the minimum bail amount, describing his client as a disciplined ustazah who had cooperated with the authorities.

He said his client had no previous offences, had received the Excellent Service Award twice and would retire on Nov 16.

The court set bail at RM2,000 for both charges with one surety and fixed Dec 6 for case mention.
