KUALA LUMPUR: No Malaysian casualties were reported following an attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, yesterday, Wisma Putra said today.

In a statement, the Foreign Ministry said it and the Malaysian Embassy in Riyadh were in contact with several Malaysians who were travelling and had been stranded to provide consular assistance.

"Malaysians residing in, transiting through or planning to travel to Saudi Arabia are strongly advised to remain vigilant.

"As flight disruptions continue, those planning to travel in the near future are advised to check their flight status directly with their airlines before heading to the airport.

"Malaysians are also advised to prepare for possible flight delays or cancellations, follow updates through official channels and fully comply with safety instructions issued by local authorities," it said.

International media reported yesterday that 12 people were killed and 309 injured in the attack at King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh.

The Saudi General Authority of Civil Aviation (GACA) said those killed included four Saudi nationals, two Bangladeshis, and one national each from the United States, Egypt, Jordan, Syria, Palestine and Sudan.

The incident followed earlier reports of a powerful explosion at the airport, disrupting flight operations and triggering panic among passengers.

More than 12 ambulances were reportedly dispatched to the scene, while some travellers were evacuated from airport facilities for their safety.

The incident occurred amid reports of an increase in Houthi missile attacks against Saudi Arabia in recent weeks.

Separately, a projectile was reported to have landed near King Fahd International Airport in Dammam.

Meanwhile, Wisma Putra urged Malaysians to register and keep their details updated through the e-Konsular portal at https://ekonsular.kln.gov.my.

The ministry said this would facilitate prompt communication and the delivery of consular assistance, adding that it would continue to monitor developments.

Malaysians requiring urgent consular assistance or facing emergencies can contact the Malaysian Embassy in Riyadh at 00 966 11 488 7098 or 00 966 11 488 7100.

The embassy can also be reached after office hours through its emergency hotline at 00 966 56 300 6319 or by email at mwriyadh@kln.gov.my.
