Pertamina assures fuel supplies in Flores secure after M7.7 earthquake

Kupang (ANTARA) - PT Pertamina Patra Niaga has confirmed the reliability and security of fuel supplies in Flores, East Nusa Tenggara, following the 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck the area on Saturday morning.

Ahad Rahedi, area manager of the company, said the safety of the residents and workers became Pertamina's top priority when dealing with disaster situations.

"Pertamina expresses its concern regarding the earthquake in NTT. We are continuously conducting checks and ensuring that all fuel distribution facilities are safe," Rahedi said in Surabaya, East Java, on Saturday.

Pertamina is monitoring the condition of fuel distribution infrastructure and facilities in Sikka District, Nagekeo, Greater Manggarai, and other affected areas. Initial inspections indicate all fuel distribution outlets are safe and no damage has been found on key infrastructure.

As a precautionary measure, operations at several distribution outlets have been temporarily suspended until facility inspections are complete and conditions are declared safe.

Rahedi noted the temporary suspension of operations at certain locations is a precautionary step ensuring safety standards are met before services resume.

Pertamina is also coordinating with local governments and relevant agencies to monitor the earthquake's impact, including power outages and the condition of Trans Ende-Bajawa road, which experienced landslides.

Pertamina is ensuring fuel stock levels remain secure and is preparing supply safeguards to meet the community's energy needs once conditions allow.

For Reo area, current stock resilience is recorded at approximately nine days for aviation fuel (Avtur), six days for Biosolar, four days for Pertamina Dex, five days for Pertamax, and five days for Pertalite.

Pertamina urges the public to remain calm, avoid panic buying, and rely on official information from the government and Pertamina regarding fuel availability and the status of energy services in the affected regions.

In addition to maintaining energy reliability, Rahedi said Pertamina is also preparing humanitarian aid for communities affected by the earthquake.

The aid includes ready-to-eat meals and essential food packages, while Pertamina is preparing emergency tents, tarpaulins, blankets, hygiene kits, medicines, and other logistical supplies for around 1,000 displaced people at the Reo Disaster Relief Post.

Rahedi emphasised the aids would be distributed in coordination with relevant parties on the ground to ensure it reaches the communities in need.
