Northern Samar hospital exceeds bed capacity, halts admissions

TACLOBAN CITY— The Northern Samar Provincial Hospital (NSPH) in Catarman, Northern Samar, has exceeded its maximum bed capacity, prompting the facility to suspend additional admissions and urge patients to seek treatment at other hospitals with available services.
In a public advisory issued on Saturday, Oct. 24, the hospital reported 363 admitted patients as of 11 a.m., more than twice its 150-bed capacity authorized by the Department of Health (DOH).
The hospital said it had 302 available beds but was still operating beyond its maximum capacity, leaving no beds for additional admissions at the time of the advisory.

NSPH appealed to partner healthcare facilities and the public to refer or direct patients who do not require specialized or higher-level care to other hospitals to help ease the pressure on its services.
The hospital also asked the public for understanding and cooperation to ensure that patients with critical and emergency conditions receive the urgent medical attention they need.
The advisory did not specify the causes of the surge in admissions or how long the hospital expects to operate beyond capacity.
The Northern Samar Provincial Hospital is a government healthcare facility, where demand for hospital services can add pressure on available beds and medical resources.
The hospital urged the public to coordinate with other healthcare facilities for patients who can be accommodated elsewhere while it manages its current patient load./coa
