Erling Haaland will not start for Manchester City in its UEFA Champions League 2026-27 match against AEK Athens on Tuesday, October 20.
Haaland found the net twice in City’s Premier League win over Ipswich Town at the weekend, but limped off late in the game after taking a blow to the foot.
After the match, Manchester City manager Enzo Maresca confirmed that Haaland’s knock would be assessed, saying, “We will see. I asked him and he said he was OK, so hopefully it is nothing serious.”
The Norwegian has been named on the bench for match, with Floyd Samba starting.

The Norwegian forward has followed up an outstanding FIFA World Cup 2026 with another fine start to the campaign for City. He has scored 12 goals in all competitions, including eight in the Premier League.
Alongside Haaland, fellow forward Antoine Semenyo suffered a more serious injury in the match. The Ghana international is expected to be ruled out until December with a knee injury.
