No matter how many times someone confidently declares that superhero fatigue is finally setting in, Spider-Man is one of the brands that feels essentially immune. Even as the MCU struggled (comparatively speaking), Spider-Man: No Way Home bucked the trend, and Brand New Day followed up with a more than $2 billion box office. That’s Avengers numbers.
And sure, Spider-Noir wasn’t quite the same sort of success, but audience goodwill allows for bolder swings, and the 92% critics score and 90% audience score defy the idea that Nic Cage’s Spider-Man series was a real failure. Part of its smaller footprint was simply that it wasn’t a “true” Spider-Man project, couldn’t call on four-quadrant audience, and wasn’t a merch driver.
Spider-Man, on the other hand, is still Disney’s single biggest IP when it comes to selling merch, and the audience appetite remains as voracious as ever. So even though we don’t fully know the entire map ahead for Peter Parker in the MCU, or what Sony has planned to keep the wider live-action Spider-Verse rights, there’s still a significant number of Spider-Man releases at very stages of development.

Before getting his own solo film, Tom Holland’s Peter Parker made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut by being recruited by Tony Stark to help in a massive superhero conflict. In which MCU film did Holland first appear as Spider-Man?
✓ Correct! Tom Holland first appeared as Spider-Man in Captain America: Civil War (2016), where Tony Stark visits Peter in Queens and recruits him for the airport battle against Team Cap. His quippy, starstruck portrayal instantly won over audiences.
✗ Web miss! The answer is Captain America: Civil War. Holland debuted in the 2016 film before Homecoming (2017). He was recruited by Tony Stark for the iconic airport fight scene, stealing Captain America’s shield with his webs in one of the film’s most memorable moments.
02
In Spider-Man: Homecoming, Peter faces a blue-collar salvage contractor who turned to arms dealing after being shut out of the Chitauri cleanup by Damage Control. Using an alien-tech wingsuit, he becomes one of Spider-Man’s most grounded villains. Who is he?
✓ Correct! Adrian Toomes, played brilliantly by Michael Keaton, is the Vulture — a working-class father who builds a criminal empire selling alien-derived weapons. The twist that he’s the father of Peter’s date Liz is one of the MCU’s best surprises.
✗ Web miss! The answer is The Vulture (Adrian Toomes). The Shocker and Tinkerer are his henchmen in the film, and Scorpion (Mac Gargan) only briefly appears. Toomes is the main antagonist who personally confronts Peter in the unforgettable car ride scene.
03
Tony Stark built Peter a high-tech suit loaded with features Peter didn’t even know about, including an AI assistant that helps him in combat, provides tactical analysis, and even gives dating advice. What name does Peter give this AI?
✓ Correct! Peter names his suit’s AI “Karen,” voiced by Jennifer Connelly. She assists him with web shooter modes, reconnaissance, and even his love life. Friday is Tony Stark’s AI, and E.D.I.T.H. is the Stark satellite system that appears in Far From Home.
✗ Web miss! The answer is Karen. Friday is Tony Stark’s personal AI, E.D.I.T.H. is the Stark defense satellite Peter inherits in Far From Home, and Jocasta is an AI from the comics. Karen, voiced by Jennifer Connelly, is Peter’s suit assistant throughout Homecoming.
04
In Spider-Man: Far From Home, Peter encounters a seemingly heroic figure who claims to be from an alternate Earth, battling elemental creatures across Europe. In reality, he’s a disgruntled former Stark Industries employee using advanced holographic drones. What is his real name?
✓ Correct! Quentin Beck, played by Jake Gyllenhaal, is Mysterio — a master of illusion who uses Stark Industries’ B.A.R.F. holographic technology and weaponized drones to fabricate the Elementals and pose as a hero. His final act of revenge shapes the entire third film.
✗ Web miss! The answer is Quentin Beck. William Ginter Riva is one of Beck’s team members, Aldrich Killian is the villain of Iron Man 3, and Justin Hammer is from Iron Man 2. Beck is Mysterio, the illusionist who manipulated Peter’s trust across Europe.
05
In one of the MCU’s most shocking mid-credits scenes, J. Jonah Jameson broadcasts doctored footage from Mysterio’s final moments that completely upends Peter Parker’s life. What does this broadcast reveal to the entire world?
✓ Correct! Mysterio’s doctored footage, broadcast by J. Jonah Jameson (J.K. Simmons reprising his iconic role), exposes Spider-Man’s identity as Peter Parker to the entire world. This revelation drives the entire plot of No Way Home as Peter desperately seeks to undo the damage.
✗ Web miss! The answer is that Spider-Man is Peter Parker. While the footage also frames Spider-Man for the London drone attack, the earth-shattering reveal is Peter’s unmasked identity being broadcast globally by The Daily Bugle’s J. Jonah Jameson.
06
With his identity exposed and his loved ones under threat, Peter seeks help from a powerful sorcerer to cast a spell that would make the world forget he is Spider-Man. Peter’s constant modifications to the spell cause it to fracture the multiverse. Which sorcerer casts this spell?
✓ Correct! Doctor Strange (Benedict Cumberbatch) casts the memory-wiping spell at Peter’s request, but Peter keeps asking for exceptions — for MJ, Ned, May, and Happy to still remember him. These constant changes corrupt the spell and tear open the multiverse, pulling in villains from other Spider-Man universes.
✗ Web miss! The answer is Doctor Strange. While Wong is the Sorcerer Supreme and actually warns Strange against it, it is Stephen Strange who agrees to cast the spell. Wanda’s multiverse interference occurs in Multiverse of Madness, not here.
07
Throughout all three films, Peter’s loyal best friend serves as his “guy in the chair,” helping with tech support and keeping his secret. In No Way Home, this character even discovers he can open magical portals using a Sling Ring. Who is Peter’s best friend?
✓ Correct! Ned Leeds, played by Jacob Batalon, is Peter’s best friend and self-proclaimed “guy in the chair.” He discovers Peter’s secret identity in Homecoming, supports him across all three films, and in No Way Home he accidentally uses Doctor Strange’s Sling Ring to open portals to other Spider-Men.
✗ Web miss! The answer is Ned Leeds. Flash Thompson is Peter’s rival and bully who ironically idolizes Spider-Man. Harry Osborn is Peter’s friend in the Raimi and Webb films but doesn’t appear in Holland’s trilogy. Miles Morales is only hinted at. Ned is the irreplaceable “guy in the chair.”
08
At the emotional climax of No Way Home, Peter makes an enormous personal sacrifice to save the multiverse. Doctor Strange completes the spell, and when it takes effect, Peter is left completely alone. What does the final spell do?
✓ Correct! The final spell makes every person in every universe forget that Peter Parker exists. MJ, Ned, Happy, the Avengers — everyone. Peter visits MJ at the coffee shop afterward but decides not to re-introduce himself, choosing to protect them. He starts over completely alone, sewing his own suit in a small apartment.
✗ Web miss! The answer is that everyone forgets who Peter Parker is. The spell doesn’t erase Spider-Man — people still know the hero exists — but nobody remembers Peter Parker the person. This devastating sacrifice means MJ, Ned, and even Happy Hogan have no memory of him at all.

Are you an Avenger — or just a friendly neighborhood bystander?
Part of Spider-Man’s enduring magic is that broad segment accessibility, and the current slate of upcoming Spider-Man projects genuinely looks like it has something for everyone. Here is every upcoming Spider-Man movie and TV show locked in or quietly brewing for 2027 and beyond, including Prime’s Spider-Noir replacement.
10 Honorable Mention: The Live-Action Miles Morales Project
Though there isn't a named project yet - perhaps (hopefully) because it would spoil something from Avengers: Secret Wars - Marvel has officially confirmed plans to bring Miles Morales to live-action. Tom Holland has spoken of his desire to pass the torch to his own MCU replacement, and Miles fits the bill, but quite how it'll happen, and if it would be a solo project is obviously unclear. Kevin Feige couldn't have been more clear about his intentions though: "We definitely have plans [for a live-action Miles], and I think a live-action Spider-Man movie has this destiny: to add Miles sometime after the Spider-Verse series ends.”
9 Prime's Clone Saga Series
Spider-Noir was a creative experiment that worked because of the gonzo spirit and the perfect casting of Cage as Ben Reilly. Now that the show has not been renewed for a second season (not unexpectedly), Prime is moving ahead with another non-Peter Parker story, again starring Ben Reilly. Not the same one, though. This comes after it was revealed 4 new live-action Spider-Man series were under consideration.
This time, Prime is adapting the infamous Clone Saga, with initial reports suggesting either an origin story, or a clash between Ben Reilly - the clone of Peter Parker created by the Jackal after the death of Gwen Stacy - and Kaine Parker, his botched first attempt at a clone. Either way, it’s a bold move, given the Clone Saga was one of the least popular arcs in Spider-Man history. It does, however, get around the rights issue stopping Prime from using Peter Parker. And it’s not like “Brand New Day” was universally loved in the comics…
8 Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse
It feels like decades since Spider-Man: Across the Spider-Verse released in 2023, largely because Sony initially promised it was coming in 2024. How we laughed at the suggestion. Still, if the first two multiversal animations are anything to go by, Miles Morales’ trilogy-ender will be worth the wait.
Across the Spider-Verse’s ending set up an escalation for Miles, as The Spot vowed to kill his parents, Spider-Man 2099 and the Spider Society hunted him, and he found himself in a new universe where an alternate Miles had become The Prowler, rather than Spider-Man. Great cliffhanger, huge potential; especially with the promise of even bigger, wilde animation, and the return of some of the first movie’s best characters.
7 Spider-Man: Brand New Day's Re-Release & Sequel
After Avengers: Endgame Encore's lucrative re-release, we should probably have expected Marvel to find new ways to monetize secondary releases. Physical media is largely dead as a revenue stream, so replacing special editions with added footage with secondary theatrical releases makes sense.
That’s apparently the plan for Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s re-release, which will come with new footage. When it’ll come and what the footage will be - beyond the hint of new villain scenes and Rosario Dawson’s Claire Temple returning from the cutting room floor - remains to be seen, but it’ll likely draw well.
And then comes the question of the inevitable sequel. There had long been talk that Brand New Day would kick off a new trilogy for Tom Holland’s Spider-Man, and Holland has spoken about wanting to pass the torch to his own replacement. We’ll probably have to wait for whatever comes next, though, because Kevin Feige confirmed that both Zendaya and Holland will be taking a break before making Spider-Man 5.
6 Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man (Season 2 & 3)
Back in January 2025, Marvel Animation dropped the first season of Your Friendly Neighborhood Spider-Man, and everyone was so confident of its success that a second season had already been announced in 2022. A third was greenlit on release of the first season, which drew plaudits for its stylish, alternate reality take on Peter Parker’s missing MCU origin.
It’s a great show that offered the opportunity to show more Spider-Man characters than we’ve seen in the live-action MCU releases, including Norman Osborn, and the lack of fidelity to wider MCU lore meant some interesting creative choices could be embraced. Season 2 means we’ll get even more, with Gwen Stacy, Venom, Lizard, and Rhino all already confirmed. It will release on Disney+ in January 2027, while the third chapter is expected to follow in 2028.
5 Avengers: Secret Wars
As of now, Tom Holland is not involved in Avengers: Doomsday, but if you put stock in the rumor mill, there will be another Spider-Man (at least) in the upcoming multiversal ensemble. That speculation suggests we might see Tobey Maguire’s Spider-Man, who is also potentially rumored to play a major role in Secret Wars. At this point, it’s anyone’s guess.
Unquestionably more certain is Tom Holland’s return as Peter Parker in Avengers: Secret Wars. If he’s not in Doomsday, which is very possible, given Marvel kept some heroes back from Infinity War, then the idea that he won’t be in Secret Wars is ludicrous. Spider-Man: Brand New Day’s ending also set up another Spider-Man variant approaching Earth, which would suggest either an incursion, or whatever meet-cute brings Holland into Secret Wars’ events. Nothing is confirmed yet, but mark this one up as all-but.
4 Spidey & His Amazing Friends (Season 6 & 7)
It is easy for hardcore comic fans to overlook the preschool sector, but Spidey & His Amazing Friends has already run for five seasons, and is crucial for Marvel encouraging the next generation of Spider-Man fans. It’s also a cute show centered on Peter Parker, Gwen Stacy, Miles Morales and more (including Iron Man and the other Avengers). It’s not for every audience level, but if you can’t have fun with a kid-friendly, entry level Spidey show, you’re too far gone. Seasons 6 and 7 have already been renewed, with the former expected in 2027.
3 Spider-Punk
After the success of the Spider-Verse animated movies, it was always likely Sony would look to capitalize with more stories. And back in August 2025, news broke that a Spider-Punk animated movie from co-writers Daniel Kaluuya (who also plays Hobie Brown) and Ajon Singh (Primetime) was in early development.
Hobie was one of the breakouts of Across The Spider-Verse, with a stunning animation style that suggests we’ll get an incredibly visually arresting series when it arrives. Before that, Spider-Punk will also return in Beyond The Spider-Verse, which you’d have to imagine will seed his own movie. In his own universe, Brown fights against President Norman Osborn’s oppressive regime in the true spirit of punk.
2 Venom
Back in February, with the fate of Tom Hardy’s live-action Venom franchise long since sealed, news also broke that Sony Animation was looking to bring back the Lethal Protector for an animated movie, from Final Destination: Bloodlines directors Zach Lipovsky and Adam B. Stein.
Since that initial announcement, which also revealed that Hardy will be involved as a producer along with his Venom writing collaborator Kelly Marcel, there’s been no news. It’s unclear whether Hardy will once again voice Eddie Brock and his symbiote companion, or whether it’s related to the timeline of the live-action Venom trilogy, but Venom: The Last Dance’s ending was pretty definitive in ending their story. At least if they undid that, we might get to see Sony do something with Knull, though, so maybe that’s the ideal approach?
1 Spider-Gwen
Alongside the announcement of the animated Spider-Punk movie, reports also revealed that Hailee Steinfeld’s Gwen Stacy would be getting her own movie. As of February 2026, Sony Animation co-president Kristine Belson revealed that the upcoming Spider-Gwen project - as well as Spider-Punk - were both in active development.
Alongside Miles Morales, Gwen is arguably the standout of the Spider-Verse movies, and her transformation from tragic supporting character to full-blown hero was so popular in the comics that giving her a leading role seems like easy money. It should be, and mercifully seems to be, a priority for Sony, and though a live-action project would have been great, spending more time with this version of the character after Spider-Man: Beyond the Spider-Verse and seeing her versions of iconic Spider-Man villains is still hugely exciting.
