Coronation Street airs major Kit Green twist at Sarah Platt's trial in early ITVX release

Kit Green (Jacob Roberts) has took the stand in Sarah Platt's (Tina O'Brien) Coronation Street trial.

To everyone's horror, it hasn't gone as planned.

Sarah is currently on remand for the murder of Theo Silverton (James Cartwright), with her trial taking place this week. It was hoped that Kit could speak in her defence, though he insisted that it could be career damaging and that he wasn't prepared to take that risk.

Of course, his real reason for not making a court appearance boils down to feeling suffocated by the Platt clan, while also battling stage three breast cancer and his guilt for betraying Sarah just days after their relationship broke down.

As viewers know, he slept with her daughter Bethany Platt (Lucy Fallon), who earlier this week discovered she is pregnant with his child.

After a disastrous day, which saw DS Lisa Connor-Swain (Vicky Myers) and Danielle Silverton (Natalie Anderson) paint Sarah in a terrible light, she shouted out across the courtroom and proceedings were adjourned.

David then made one last attempt at swaying Kit. Losing his temper, he told the Platts that he wanted nothing more to do with them.

In today's episode, Bethany delivered some bad news from her mum's barrister to David. Kit had decided not to attend court, and Gary Windass (Mikey North) - who was accomplice in the crime - would be the next to take to the stand.

Bethany found the whole ordeal too difficult to deal with and rushed out, returning to the Redbank Apartments to put further pressure on Kit to do the right thing. He was eventually swayed, but it didn't go to plan.

A shocking character assassination of Sarah followed, portraying her as unreliable, untrustworthy and unpredictable. The Platts were gobsmacked, though he did do one right thing. Kit said that his ex wasn't a murderer, and that it was clear she'd acted in self defence.

However, with the day's events playing on her mind, Sarah thought it was best to start putting her affairs in order ahead of what she presumes to be a guilty verdict. That night, calling Bethany, David and Shona Platt (Julia Goulding), she asked whether her daughter would take on the custody of her younger brother Harry (Joshua Leavy).

Effectively, she wanted Bethany to mother him.

With her own baby on the way, Bethany knew that she'd clearly struggle with two children.

What will she do?
