On Oct. 8, Phivolcs recorded a five-minute phreatomagmatic eruption at Taal Volcano.
The agency explained that volcanic earthquakes are caused by magma-related processes beneath or near an active volcano, while volcanic tremors are continuous, low-frequency seismic signals that may persist for more than a minute.
Taal also emitted 223 metric tons of sulfur dioxide during the monitoring period, which Phivolcs classified as a weak emission.
Taal Volcano remains under Alert Level 1, indicating abnormal conditions. Phivolcs cautioned that this status should not be interpreted as a sign that volcanic unrest or the threat of an eruption has ended./coa
