KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 8 — Thunderstorms, heavy rain and strong winds are expected to hit parts of Terengganu, Pahang, Johor and Sabah until noon today, according to the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia).

MetMalaysia said in a thunderstorm warning issued at 8.50am that the affected areas in Terengganu are Kemaman and Dungun.

In Pahang, the department said the districts of Kuantan, Pekan and Rompin are expected to be affected.

In Johor, Mersing and Kota Tinggi are on the list, it said.

In Sabah, MetMalaysia said Kudat division, covering Pitas and Kudat, is also expected to see bad weather.

The department said such warnings are issued when there are signs of thunderstorms with rainfall intensity of more than 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

It said a thunderstorm warning is a short-term alert that is valid for no more than six hours for each issuance.
