Gurdeep Mehndi hits back at Abhijeet Bhattacharya over Daler Mehndi lip-sync remark: 'Woh jo gaa rahe the, live hi gaa rahe the, lip-sync nahi kar rahe the'

Gurdeep Mehndi, son of Punjabi singer Daler Mehndi, has reacted to singer Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s comments on the controversy around his father. In a video on Instagram, Gurdeep said he was disappointed by the remarks and promised to share footage showing that his father sang live at the event in question.

What Gurdeep Mehndi said

Addressing Abhijeet Bhattacharya directly, Gurdeep Mehndi said, “Kuch artists aise bhi hote hain jo chand views ke liye kuch bhi aur bhi bol dete hain. The way Abhijeet spoke recently, usse mujhe umeed nahi thi ki woh aisa kuch bolenge. Aur woh bhi itne legendary singer ke liye. Brother, I will send you the footage from that day. Woh jo gaa rahe the, live hi gaa rahe the, lip-sync nahi kar rahe the (Some artists are such that for some views they speak whatever they want.

I didn’t expect Abhijeet to make such comments for a legendary artist. I will send you the footage of my father, you check that he was singing live and not lip-syncing).”He added, “Bura time, accha time kisi ka bhi aa sakta hai, brother. Baaki, be polite. Main aapki galatfehmi jaldi door karunga footage dete hue (Everyone has their share of good and bad days. So please be polite. I will clear your misunderstanding with the footage).”

What Abhijeet Bhattacharya had said

Abhijeet recently performed at Chhattisgarh Rajyotsava 2026, where he spoke against lip-syncing at live shows. He did not name Daler Mehndi, but he referred to an incident in which a minister called out a singer on stage. A clip of his comments is now going around on social media. He says, “If someone is not actually singing live into the microphone, then don’t allow it. A few days ago, there was an incident where a minister came onto the stage and spoke the truth.

He said, ‘You are not singing. You can barely stand, and you are not really performing live.’ He spoke the truth. But he ended up becoming the villain in the eyes of many people. Yet this is something that happens on stages everywhere.”

Background of the Daler Mehndi controversy

The row began last month at a cultural evening in Uttarakhand, when Cabinet Minister Subodh Uniyal interrupted Daler Mehndi’s performance. He reprimanded the singer on stage and said he looked disoriented.

“You can’t even speak properly; how will you sing?” he said. Later, speaking to ANI, the minister said Daler Mehndi had been paid Rs 35 lakh to perform at the event. After the incident, Daler Mehndi’s brother and singer Mika Singh and several other celebrities criticised the minister for disrespecting the artist. Mika Singh also said Daler Mehndi was unwell during the performance. The matter has now taken a new turn, with Gurdeep Mehndi challenging Abhijeet Bhattacharya’s claim and offering video proof that his father was singing live.
