2027 Is Officially A Big Year For Stargate Fans

Stargate is one of the most successful sci-fi franchises in history, but it also serves as one of the least well-rounded in terms of additional adaptations and releases to cater to fans. The community is certainly on standby and the popularity is there, but for some reason, there seems to be something of a reticence to really go for it with new versions of the classic IP.

Starting with the 1994 Roland Emmerich-directed movie, the momentum was really picked up by several TV shows, all of which did well, even if they did have their flaws. Over the last ten years, those adaptations have slowed to a standstill, and there hasn't been much sign of that changing, but the day may well have been saved thanks to the announcement of some very exciting physical releases.

Plenty Of Stargate Physical Releases Are On The Way

In case you haven't come across them before, Master Replicas are one of the leading producers of officially licensed, highly detailed prop replicas and franchise merchandise. As part of a recent, lengthy statement, they confirmed their plans across various franchises moving forward, and for once, Stargate wasn't left out of the proverbial party.

"More ships on the way Beyond the Stargate Week reveal covered in the lead feature above, our Stargate community has been asking for more ships. Without naming names, more are on the way across the second half of 2026 and into 2027. Watch this space," the post reads.

That could make next year a really exciting one for physical collectors, and all of that comes after the company confirmed the release of a Light-Up ZPM Replica this month. As part of their August newsletter, the company also polled fans about what they would like to see next, and shared the following brief statement about their priorities for the franchise moving forward:

• Prioritise the Aurora-class, Wraith Hive and Ori Warship as the next ship releases.
• Move on the Zat'nik'tel — the outright winner in props.
• Take a serious look at Atlantis — beginning with the Atlantis city-ship.
• Scope the full-scale Stargate properly. We will be honest about what is possible when we know.

It sounds like a genuinely exciting future for those who collect the designs featured in the various Stargate shows and films, even if they are being let down by new projects coming down the pipeline.

Elsewhere, Stargate's Future Looks More Bleak

Upsettingly, it doesn't seem as though the future for the Stargate franchise is going to change any time soon. There aren't any confirmed projects coming down the pipeline from a movies/TV perspective, and the sentiment isn't looking any more positive in the world of video games either. Hopefully, some executive realizes the potential still there with modern tech and commissions something soon, or it could fade further into obscurity before too long.
