‘Grand Theft Auto 6’ team are reportedly working on a ‘L.A. Noire’ sequel next

Grand Theft Auto 6 isn’t out until November but according to reports, developers Rockstar Games already know what their next project is.

Grand Theft Auto 6 launches November 19 and will be the first new title from Rockstar Games since the release of 2018’s Red Dead Redemption 2. A new report claims that instead of a third game in their beloved open-world Western, the studio wants to revive crime drama L.A. Noire.

The original L.A. Noire was developed by Team Bondi and published by Rockstar Games. Set in 1947, the game followed Cole Phelps as he rose through the ranks of the Los Angeles Police Department. It sold more than 4million copies in its first month and more than 7.5million copies by the end of 2017. Team Bondi dissolved shortly after the game was released. Studio head Brendan McNamara went on to form new studio Video Games Deluxe, which was acquired and renamed Rockstar Australia in 2025.

Now, a resurfaced leak from 2023 suggests that Rockstar Games could be working on a sequel. The post, originally shared on the GTA forums before being reposted on Reddit, contained information about Grand Theft Auto 6 that has since been proven true.

The post also claimed that Rockstar were in the “very early stages of development” on a L.A. Noire sequel. It would be set in San Francisco and focus on the Zodiac Killer, who was active between 1968 and 1974) “It’ll probably be 2030 when it comes out. Not joking. The higher ups want it to be the best looking game ever made.”

Earlier this year Strauss Zelnick, boss of GTA publishers Take Two, was asked about reviving LA Noire. “Broadly, we’re looking at doing something in the future with all of our intellectual property. There’s nothing to announce on L.A. Noire specifically, and if there were, it would be Rockstar announcing it, not me,” he said. “But in any case, with regard to our legacy IP, the teams are always looking at what we have and we’re always thinking about it.”

In other news, The Last Of Us co-creator Neil Druckmann has confirmed Naughty Dog are currently working on two new The Last Of Us games. “The world of The Last Of Us means a great deal to us, and we wouldn’t return to it unless we had something meaningful to say. We believe these stories are worth telling.”
