Gen V was cancelled earlier this year, but The Boys is already undoing the spinoff's fate following a big announcement. The spinoff series focuses on superpowered students at Godolkin University, a college designed for Supes building a future toward superhero stardom. In particular, it focuses on Marie Moreau, a powerful young woman able to control blood. The spinoff was released between seasons of The Boys, featuring some crossover elements in seasons 4 and 5 of the main show. However, it met an unfortunate fate earlier this year.

Gen V season 2 ended in 2025 with setup for the future of both the spinoff series and the larger universe of The Boys. Marie and her friends were recruited by Starlight and A-Train into a national resistance against Homelander and Vought, following his growth in power at the end of The Boys season 4. This laid the groundwork for season 5, which featured guest appearances from Marie and her friend, Emma, in the final few episodes. But it didn't save the show from its untimely fate.

In April 2026, Gen V was cancelled. Despite having setup for a potential season 3, with creator Eric Kripke having more plans for Marie and her friends, the show ultimately didn't earn enough viewership for Prime Video to continue production. It leaves the fate of its core characters up in the air, while also retroactively making the show a less important part of the larger universe. However, not all is lost for the characters of Gen V, since the next installment in the franchise opens the door for their stories to continue.

Thomas Godolkin's Return In Vought Rising Expands On His Gen V Story

The next show in The Boys universe is the prequel series Vought Rising. Following the exploits of Soldier Boy and Stormfront in the 1950s, the series focuses on the beginnings fo Vought's superhero program through V-One. In March 2026, following the filming wrap for season 1, it was confirmed Ethan Slater will be reprising his role as Thomas Godolkin after originally debuting as the character in Gen V season 2. This means his backstory will be expanded upon in the upcoming spinoff.

While Godolkin's return will be expanding on his story, it retroactively ties together with Gen V and the larger world of The Boys. This is because both Marie and Homelander were the result of Project Odessa, a project in the late 1960s for Vought to create near-perfect, God-level Supes. V-One offering both immortality and invincibility could have been the basis for this research, something Vought Rising can further explore, thus tying the spinoff directly into Gen V's story.

Other Gen V Characters Can Still Return In Future Shows

Godolkin's return also opens the door for other Gen V characters to come back in the future. When the show was cancelled, Kripke said he was looking at plans to bring the core characters back in a later show, even if they weren't necessarily the focus. The Boys series finale may have even set this up perfectly, following Marie's heavy involvement in Starlight's rebellion. The US government is putting together a new task force to stop Supes from abusing their power, something that could easily be the next intended step for the Gen V crew.

It's also possible they make cameo appearances in Vought Rising. The last time Soldier Boy was seen in the present day timeline, Homelander had put him back to sleep. This appears to be a cliffhanger awaiting resolution, potentially tying into the plans Kripke had for Gen V's future. There are plenty of ways the spinoff's characters can return despite their show getting cancelled, with The Boys universe's new expansion being just one possible path for their return.
