Creative economy workforce reaches 27.4 million, dominated by Gen Z

Tangerang, Banten (ANTARA) - The number of workers in Indonesia’s creative economy sector has reached 27.4 million, dominated by Generation Z and Millennials generation under 40, with women making up 58 percent, the Creative Economy Minister Teuku Riefky Harsya said.
"This shows ever greater potential," Harsya said after opening the IDE-IND event in Tangerang District, Banten, on Friday.
Creative economy potential is spread across nearly all regions with diverse subsectors, he added, supported by strong cultural roots.
Although mostly still centered in Java, Harsya pointed out potential from villages outside Java is starting to emerge.
He noted regional institutional growth is also showing a positive trend.
At the end of 2024, only about seven provinces had a dedicated creative economy office and the number is now close to 20 provinces.

"The number of districts and cities establishing creative economy offices is also targeted to grow to around 100 regions by mid next year," he said.
The ministry, together with regional governments, continues to strengthen its commitment to elevating local brands and intellectual property (IP), so they can have a voice nationally and globally.
IDE-IND was part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote local creative works to sustainably improve public welfare.
"We hope through this program, local players can transform into national champions and break into the global market," Harsya said.
Facing challenges in market access, consistency, and sustained quality and production, the ministry has prepared three main programs, which are creative village activation, creative hub activation, and Creative by Indonesia, one of which is rolled out through the IDE-IND program.
"Through this close collaboration between the central and regional governments, the government is optimistic that local creative economy players can continue improving product quality and expanding market access to realize national self-reliance," he stated.
