Govt says nearly 50 percent of 2025 interns secured jobs

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Indonesia's Ministry of Manpower said nearly 50 percent of the 2025 National Internship Programme graduates who interned across participating companies were able to secure jobs within three months of finishing the programme.

Speaking at the launch of the 2026 National Internship Programme Batch 2 in Jakarta on Wednesday, Director General of Vocational Training and Productivity at the ministry, Darmawansyah, stated around 30,000 of the 60,000 alumni who completed internships in 2025 have been employed.

According to Darmawansyah, the ministry is still tracking participants, including those who interned at government ministries and agencies before going on to work for them.

He explained that, for those working in ministries and agencies, the ministry cannot directly measure the absorption rate because recruitment for government institutions is centralised under the Ministry of Administrative and Bureaucratic Reform.

"We conduct a tracer study every three months. We just carried out one last week and the numbers have already moved. It started at 30 percent upon graduation, and now, after three months, it is approaching 50 percent," he said.

Darmawansyah noted the data reflects tracking results for participants of the 2025 National Internship Programme. He added his ministry will conduct another round of tracking in the next three months to update the employment absorption rate for the participants.

The tracking uses two methods, sending questionnaires to participants and cross-referencing participant data with BPJS Ketenagakerjaan workers' insurance membership records, specifically checking for wage earner status.

Meanwhile, the National Internship Programme continues in 2026. Batch 1 saw 46,000 participants take part in the programme, while 40,962 applicants passed the selection process for Batch 2.

For the 2026 edition, the Indonesian government is targeting 150,000 participants across three batches.

The Ministry of Manpower affirmed its commitment to regularly evaluate the programme to measure the impact of the internships, including skill development, work experience, and participants' career progress after completion.
