Rais Yatim arrives at Melaka court for expected sedition charge

MELAKA, Sept 25 — Parti Wawasan Negara chairman Tan Sri Dr Mohd Rais Yatim arrived at the Ayer Keroh Court Complex here today and is expected to be charged under the Sedition Act.

Mohd Rais arrived at 8.40 am, accompanied by his wife, Puan Sri Masnah Muhamat, and his son Danni Rais, who is also Klawang state assemblyman.

He is expected to be charged before Judge Raja Noor Adilla Raja Mahyaldin.

On July 30, Yang Dipertuan Besar of Negeri Sembilan Tuanku Muhriz Tuanku Munawir ordered the immediate revocation of the Darjah Seri Utama Negeri Sembilan and Darjah Dato’ Setia Negeri Sembilan awards conferred on Rais.

Registrar of Orders, Datuk Moha Zafir Ibrahim, was quoted as saying that Tuanku Muhriz had ordered the withdrawal of the two honours previously awarded to Mohd Rais in 2001 and 1979.

The decision was made to preserve the dignity, sanctity and honour of the Negeri Sembilan royal institution.

Mohd Rais served as the menteri besar of Negeri Sembilan from 1978 to 1982. — Bernama
