MACC, FBI step up cooperation to tackle corruption, cross-border crime, says chief commissioner

PUTRAJAYA, Sept 24 — The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) and the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are reinforcing their cooperation through the exchange of experience and expertise, as well as capacity-building in enforcement.

MACC Chief Commissioner Datuk Seri Abd Halim Aman said this was among the matters discussed during a courtesy visit by an FBI delegation led by Law Enforcement Attaché Varinder Singh to the MACC headquarters here today.

“Strategic cooperation with the FBI is an important platform for strengthening enforcement capabilities through the sharing of experience, expertise, and best practices, besides benefiting the capacity-building of MACC officers,” he said in a statement today.

Abd Halim said the nearly hour-long meeting focused on operational issues, including corruption linked to fraudulent activities and coordination between enforcement agencies in addressing cross-border crime challenges.

He said the visit also opened up opportunities for both sides to explore new areas of cooperation that could be strengthened in the future. 

“The opportunity to participate in various programmes and training conducted by the FBI is invaluable,” he said.

Also present were MACC senior directors Datuk Y.S. Karunanithy (Special Operations Division), Datuk Saiful Ezral Arifin (Intelligence Division), and director Datuk Saiful Hazmi Mohd Saad (Legal and Prosecution Division), as well as FBI Assistant Law Enforcement Attaché Cody Kirk. — Bernama
