The Senate has approved the bill that imposes a ban on minors from having social media accounts, according to a report on "State of the Nation" on Thursday.

Under Safe Media Access and Responsible Technology for Kids in Digital Spaces or Smart Kids Act, children aged 17 and below are restricted from having access to and other harmful digital apps, and websites.

The accounts of minors will be disabled or suspended, they will also be banned from creating accounts.

The Lower House has passed in second reading a similar bill. But the version states that children 13 years and below are banned from creating social media accounts.
