Osun CP deploys tactical team over cult killings

Following recent cult-related killings in Osogbo, Osun State capital, the Commissioner of Police, Ibrahim Zungura, has deployed the command’s tactical teams to the metropolis to restore normalcy.
The deployment followed a series of shootings allegedly linked to rival cult groups in different parts of the city.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Abiodun Ojelabi, disclosed this in a statement on Sunday, quoting the commissioner as describing the recent killings as “disturbing and unacceptable.”
According to the statement, a cult clash occurred on October 2, 2026, around the Owo-Eba area of Osogbo, during which two persons identified as Adebayo Taoreed, aka “Small Rugged,” and Oluwaseyi Daniel, aka “OSHA,” were shot dead.
The police said some other persons also sustained gunshot injuries in the incident.
The statement added that on October 4, suspected cultists invaded the Arowomole area of Osogbo, where one Rasak Wahab, aka “Ojo Iku,” was shot.
He was reportedly evacuated to a hospital and was responding to treatment as of Sunday.
Following the incidents, Zungura directed all tactical teams of the command to relocate to the Oke-Baale area and remain there until normalcy was fully restored.
The teams were also directed to conduct intelligence-led raids and operations professionally and within the ambit of the law, targeting identified cult members, criminal hideouts and other locations allegedly linked to criminal activities.
The police said the cases had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for discreet investigation.
Meanwhile, the commissioner directed Area Commanders, Divisional Police Officers and tactical commanders to intensify patrols, gather actionable intelligence and maintain sustained security presence in identified flashpoints across the metropolis.
Zungura warned cultists and their sponsors that the state would not be a safe haven for criminals involved in shootings and killings.
He, however, assured residents that the command was in control of the security situation and urged them to continue their lawful activities without fear.
