‘Wild Horse Nine’ Trailer: Martin McDonagh’s Venice Hit Saddles Up For Awards-Season Run

UPDATED with official trailer: Searchlight Pictures has released the official trailer for Martin McDonagh‘s dark spy comedy Wild Horse Nine, which is coming off its buzzy world premiere at the Venice Film Festival.

The pic, which hits theaters November 6, scored an almost 15-minute ovation after its debut screening in Venice. John Malkovich, who co-stars with Sam Rockwell, went on to win the fest’s Volpi Cup Best Actor award for his performance.

Set just before the 1973 Chilean coup, Malkovich and Rockwell play CIA agents Chris and Lee, respectively, who are dispatched from Santiago to Easter Island by their bureau chief (Steve Buscemi). As the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’ newfound bond with a pair of students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas) threatens to send everyone’s trip sideways.

Tom Waits and Parker Posey also star in the film, McDonagh’s first since The Banshees of Inisherin, which was nominated for nine Oscars in 2023 including for directing, writing and Best Picture.

PREVIOUSLY, March 19: Searchlight Pictures on Thursday rolled out the trailer for Wild Horse Nine, the new film written and directed by Martin McDonagh. It marks his first feature film since The Banshees of Inisherin, which was nominated for nine Oscars in 2023 including for directing, writing and Best Picture.

As the longtime partners wrestle with their dark pasts and present conspiracies, Chris’ newfound bond with a pair of rebellious students (Mariana di Girolamo and Ailín Salas) threatens to send everyone’s trip to the remote paradise sideways.

Searchlight has already set a November 6, 2026 release date for the pic, which also stars Tom Waits and Parker Posey.

Graham Broadbent, Pete Czernin, McDonagh and Anita Overland are producers.

The new pic, described as a dark comedic drama a la Banshees, reunites McDonagh and Rockwell from McDonagh’s Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri, which was nominated for seven Oscars and won two, for Rockwell as Supporting Actor and Frances McDormand as Best Actress.
