The U.S. has spent more than $47B so far to carry out its war against Iran, over 25% higher than the Pentagon's estimate in July, Reuters reported.

The projected cost of replacing expended munitions is more than $29B, according to Pentagon data obtained by Reuters.

Over $6B would be needed to replace military equipment and so-called "platform losses," which include the loss of aircraft during the war.

The estimate does not include the cost of repairing damage to U.S. military bases that were targeted by Iranian drone and missile attacks.

During a Senate Appropriations Committee hearing in July, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth estimated that the war cost $37.5B.

The Pentagon did not respond to Reuters' request for comment on the estimate, which has not been shared publicly.

Last month, the Congressional Budget Office estimated that the war could cost around $2B-$3B per month if the conflict persisted.
