Police hunt man posing as Selangor Raja Muda's bodyguard over RM700,000 scam

SHAH ALAM: Police are hunting a 40-year-old man accused of impersonating the Raja Muda of Selangor's personal bodyguard to defraud victims of RM700,000.
Selangor police chief Datuk Shazeli Kahar said 19 police reports had been lodged against the suspect, including nine in Selangor. He is now on the police wanted list.
"Police wish to stress that the person is not a palace staff member and has no ties to the Selangor Palace.. He is an ordinary person who allegedly took advantage of his friends to deceive them," he told a press conference at the Selangor police headquarters today.
Shazeli said police had arrested an accomplice, a local woman in her 30s believed to be the suspect's fiancée, for allegedly helping him carry out the scam.
The suspect is believed to have used photographs of the prince to deceive victims in property and vehicle transactions.
Investigations began after the Sultan of Selangor's Security Control Office at Istana Mestika lodged a police report on Oct 15.
In a statement, the Selangor Palace said it viewed the matter seriously and had left the investigation into the impersonation case to the police, calling for a thorough, fair and transparent probe.
